GAME WELL AND TRULY OVER

We're going to do things a little differently

I have severe writer's block. As a result, I've decided to the change up the format of Game Well and Truly Over. And I need your help.

I need you to choose a song that means a lot to you. Then I need you to say why it means a lot to you, in a paragraph or two (or three, or any amount). Then I need you to include a link to a YouTube video of that song. I'm going to try to post a different video and explanation everyday, with the first one on January 1, 2010. It's kind of like Flickr's 365 or Someone Once Told Me, but not really.

I think the word "mustn't" is underused.

Table positioning

Have you ever sat at a table with 4 other people or 6 other people and been the one person shoved off to the side?

I've noticed that it's a pain in the ass in a social setting, like over dinner. But in a business setting such as a meeting, it almost seems as though you're at the head of the table when you're speaking. I have no idea why that is.

Don't call it a comeback

Yes, I know it's been a while. And yes, I know you're fed-up of seeing a post about Michael Jackson. But I'm back. With some design changes too! I still haven't decided exactly what I want to do here or what the point of this is. But I have 13 fans on Facebook and 155 followers on Twitter and I'll be damned if I allow myself to let them down!

So what has happened since we last spoke?

• Kate Winslet won an oscar. Richly deserved and globally predicted. But as a result, my infatuation with her has waned. If we can't talk about her lack of oscar success, what can we talk about? Titanic? I don't think so.

• I went to an insane Champions League match between Chelsea and Liverpool that finished 4-4, with Chelsea going through on away goals. It must have been great for a neutral, but I wouldn't know.

• Manchester United won the Premier League. Congratulations, but look over your shoulder next season...

• Twitter messed around with @ replies. I have to admit I was really upset on the day. Now I don't care that much.

• T&T hosted the Summit of the Americas. Barack Obama showed up and spoke. Evo Morales played football. One person signed a declaration. And a photo of Barack Obama and Brian Lara made it on to the front page of all three daily newspapers.

• I read and watched The Damned United. Look out for a review of the latter soon.

• 188bet announced shirt sponsorships of Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic. Uh, who the hell are 188bet? I noticed that Bolton are already wearing the new sponsor logo on their shirts.

• @NiceOneRob and I launched #springsteenlyrics Fridays on twitter. It hasn't exactly swept the online world yet, nor has it become a trending topic yet, but just wait until this Friday.

• Donald Peters, CEO of the West Indies Cricket Board, resigned. The West Indies hit a new low on the field. Chris Gayle said he would welcome the end of test cricket, then said he was misquoted.

• Stern John is clubless. I repeat, clubless. Dare I suggest him in a Liverpool shirt partnering El Nino up front? No? Ok. But I hope he finds a new club soon. AND scores many for T&T in the remaining World Cup Qualifiers

• I continue to get Scouting for Girls and Kings of Leon mixed up.

• This morning in the shower, I challenged myself to name as many tracks off Wilson Phillips' debut album as possible. I'm embarrassed to say how many I got right.

• The Central Line on the tube has been reliable (knock on wood). Even when a woman went into labour at St. Paul's station.

Hey Seal, huh?

While in the shower this morning, I had the following thought:

"Seal's lyrics in "Kiss from a Rose" don't really make sense do they? Sure, he's comparing someone to a kiss from a rose on the grave, but then proceeds with "the more I get of you the stranger it feels. Yeah." What does that have to do with the kiss from the rose on the grave? I don't understand the comparison."

I've taken a look at the lyrics (here) and I'm still confused. The following two lines initially seem more relevant:

"And now that your rose is in bloom. A light hits the gloom on the grave."

Yes, the grave is mentioned, but I still don't understand the comparison. Am I missing some massive metaphor? Perhaps there isn't even a grave at all.

I guess there are more important things to worry about, but if you're out there Seal, get in touch and fill me in.

Monday morning tube story

I thought the whiteboard at the tube station this morning read "Oi December" but it was actually 01 December. That would make more sense...
